Topic- What you are writing about
Focus- Narrows the topic to a few idea that you can expand on. This keeps your topic from being too broad or too narrow.
Example Topic Sentences
Too broad- I like cats.
Too narrow- Cats catch mice, insects and other pests.
Just right- Cats can be useful pets around the house.
Too broad- I took a trip to Seattle this summer.
Too narrow- We drove to Seattle in our van.
Just right- Seattle has a lot of great tourist attractions to visit.
Body of your paragraph should include:
For each idea, reason or detail, an explanation, example, evidence or experience
Conclusion
Restate your topic and review what was covered in the paragraph.
